This story is told by Edward S. Ellis in his book The Life of Colonel David Crockett, published in 1884. Long before he earned fame and eternal glory at the Alamo, Davy Crocket was a member of Congress, serving his beloved Kentucky with pride and distinction. There are many heroic tales and sage stories associated with this remarkable pioneer. This one is called "Sockdologer".

When in the Course of human events it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.

The Bill of Rights is made up of ten separate amendments, dealing with issues ranging from free speech and unjust searches to religious liberty and cruel and unusual punishment.
